Hardware Requirements
As a browser-based solution, we do not stipulate minimum hardware requirements other than that they should meet any set by individual browser manufacturers, and that a good and reliable internet connection is available that will support routine browsing of the internet by however many concurrent connections are required at the exam location.
Where content includes many large images and/or the streaming of video or audio, the internet connection must be adequate to handle the download/streaming of that content.
For an individual browser’s hardware requirements, please consult the relevant manufacturer’s recommendations.
Browser Versions
XAMS supports the following browser versions:
Chrome for Chromebooks v46+
Chrome for Windows v80+
Chrome IOS v80+
Microsoft Edge Legacy Version v14+ (but does not support PDF content)
Microsoft Edge Chromium v80+
Firefox v80+
Safari v14+
SEB 3.01+ (and OS11 on Macs)
Screen Resolution
The minimum resolution required will depend on the content of an exam, but the XAMS exam player is fully responsive and will adapt to whatever the screen size is.
However, below a horizontal resolution of 500px the user experience is unlikely to be satisfactory, and where content is more complex, for example with graphical style questions, reading materials, or workings, a resolution below 1366 x 768px may prove unsuitable, and where possible a resolution of 1920 x 1024px would be desirable.
